CHFCA is delighted to welcome The City of Edmonton as an End-user member
Edmonton, AB – The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) is delighted to welcome The City of Edmonton as an End-user member.
Located on Treaty 6 Territory and with a population of over one million, Edmonton is one of Canada’s youngest and fastest-growing cities. The city is building a resilient and diverse economy, attracting the best and the brightest, and striving to be a world leader in environmental sustainability, quality of life, and community safety.
The City is exploring new sustainable transportation technology by purchasing and testing new hydrogen-powered bus technology. The Alberta Zero Emission Hydrogen Transit (AZEHT) initiative, a project funded by Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), will demonstrate two HFCEBs in road trials shared by the City of Edmonton, Strathcona County, with the active participation of the City of Calgary, and Town of Banff/Bow Valley to give Alberta municipalities hands-on experience with the FCEB technology.
Derek Hanson, Director of Transit Fleet Maintenance for the City of Edmonton, spoke about working with the association to advance the hydrogen economy in Edmonton: “As a new member of the CHFCA, the City of Edmonton is thrilled to work with a global leader focused on advancing the use of clean hydrogen, fuel cell technologies, and products. We value this incredible opportunity to work together, as we move toward having a carbon-neutral fleet.”
“We are thrilled to welcome the City of Edmonton and Edmonton Transit, undisputed leaders in the development of hydrogen projects, as municipal members,” says Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO of the CHFCA. “The CHFCA and our Hydrogen Alberta affiliate look forward to closely collaborating with the City of Edmonton and Edmonton Transit, and learning from their successes as we support other Canadian municipalities in advancing their hydrogen goals.”
